On first entering "Ideal Bar", one of VEGAs concert venues in Copenhagen, you are immediately met with this small yet intimate stage. Being the first to enter the venue, it was exciting to be so up close and personal with the artists everyone was arriving to see and listen to.
Learning that Chanel Beads, led by Shane Lavers and Maya McGrory aka Colle was headlining in Denmark there was no question that their concert was going to attract some well-deserved attention. This was their second performance in Copenhagen as they had previously played in 2023 at the now closed-down venue "ny lille klub" in Amagerbro.

Together with their supporting act 'urikas bedroom' I could tell the performance was going to pull some seriously dedicated crowds, which it absolutely did. Urikas bedroom is led by bass player and vocalist Tchad Cousins, with Silas Johnson on the guitar and Shamik Ganguly on the drums. Their performance together felt so natural and well-practised. Their sound was uniquely grungy but had elements of indie rock and experimental electronic backtracks included in their performance. Ultimately it was well-fitting for the small intimate venue and I could tell people were slowly matching the energy they had brought to the stage that night. After the concert, I got their new album 'Big Smile, Black Mire' signed, which ended up in a conversation with all of the band members. Shamik shared that he and Tchad have known each other for a while and that they are originally from Michigan, but had moved to L.A. Silas talked about their short but nice visit to Copenhagen and how they have enjoyed their first European tour so far. The research done after the concert also revealed that Silas and Tchad had also worked on music before with the track 'All Night' where Tchad and Silas are both credited together. They were all kind and passionate about their music, and you could tell that they were a perfect fit together. Here is a video of their performance:
The Chanel Beads concert was just as unique as urikas bedroom. Tchad joined in the performance and played some of the many digital instruments that were utilized by the band. The performance was like no other. Shane conjured up some insane energy and hype during the concert. He hugged concertgoers, jumped up and down on stage, but looked like he was having fun with Colle and Tchad during the performance. Shane also performed with what I can only imagine is an electric flute and where Colle led with the guitar and digital backtrack. The concert was to promote their debut album 'Idea June'. They performed the track 'Police Scanner' from their debut album and what became my favourite performance was of the track 'ef'. Together with the track 'Zut Alors' these two are in my opinion the best Chanel Beads songs. Again here are some of the videos I took of the performance below:
It was a performance where you had to be there to experience the energy that was radiating that night from Chanel Beads and urikas bedroom. After the performance, fans were able to speak and get their newly bought vinyls and CD's signed by Shane and Maya. The conversation I had with them was short, but the kindness and the time that they showed together with their appreciation for their fans coming to their concert was a nice change of pace from other concerts I had attended.
If you have not already given both bands a listen, then I will highly recommend you show your support by giving their music a listen. I have made a playlist of my favourite tracks by both bands through the following link. In addition, you can also show your support by listening to Tchad's co-produced track 'blunt subconscious' by untilted (halo) under his urikas bedroom stage name.
