Two weeks ago, I received a message through Instagram from the record label 15_love. The message was from the manager offering me to come by their office to pick up the new vinyl release of CTM’s album “Vind”. The following week, I was then met by the manager, where I then received the vinyl release as a promo for this article. I did not want to rush this opportunity to talk with a manager of a record label, so I shared my ideas about my plans for ‘Søen’ and in turn learned more about 15_love. The record label was established and is mainly managed by Agnete Hannibal Petri. She is a Copenhagen based musician, who shared with me that she had previously worked for the independent label Escho. I have since found that she is from a family of musicians, who has released music together through ‘Our Recordings’. In the songs composed by her father, Lars Hannibal, Agnete masterfully plays the Cello in songs such as my favourite “Autumn Rain”. From my brief meeting with Agnete, I could tell that she was passionate about 15_love. With the new release of Slim0s album “FORGIVENESS”, to the previous release with the internationally known “Suntub” by ML Buch, Agnete is showing exactly what she can achieve with 15_love.
Returning to the release of “Vind”, the album was a special interest of mine, as it was one of the first albums I discovered when I was looking for Copenhagen/Denmark based artists last year. Here I came across Cæcilie Trier, who’s known as her artist’s name CTM. She is a Copenhagen based musician, who is a singer, cellist and composer. She is classical trained, which can be heard through her varied music and collaborations with other artists. My first encounter with her music was surprisingly before I started to listen and discover more of her albums. She featured on the track ‘garbaggio’ with Dean Blunt which was part of the “Muggy Vol. 1” album. On the track you can hear her beautiful vocals and the familiar background track that is reminiscent of the rest of Dean Blunt’s discography. However, Cæcilie Trier’s album “Vind” is particularly special. It is dedicated to Jannis Noya Makrigiannis of the band “Choir of Young Believers” who passed away in 2023. When I learned of this, I relistened to the album and focused on how it made me feel, what instruments were used and how each track was composed. The classical training I had mentioned before became very apparent when relistening to the album. I noticed each acoustic instrument was designed with a different rhythm and devotion in mind. The track ‘For Jannis’ is still my favourite composed track by CTM because of the striking acoustic Cello played by Cæcilie Trier, it hits hard and is packed full of emotions and spirituality. It goes to show how close she was with Jannis as it is the longest and, in my opinion, the most elegant and meaningful track on the album. I wish I could speak more to Jannis, but from the articles I have read and the impact he has had on the music industry as well as other musicians, his music will continue to inspire others.
You can find all the tracks, albums and artists I have mentioned in my article through this link. Included are a few tracks from the music produced by Jannis in his band “Choir of Young Believers”. Lastly, I want to say thank you for the continued support and I look forward to updating you all soon with future plans for ‘Søen’.
